If you would like to learn how to square dance, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will help you find a class and location. Unfortunately, there are no classes scheduled this fall due to the coronavirus and social-distancing requirements. There are a couple of ways to learn how to square dance:
a. Square Dance ABCs for beginners where you learn about a dozen calls. The ABC classes usually lead to a BLAST class where the remainder of the “Basic“ 51 calls are taught. The BLASTs need to be followed by 4-5 weeks of square dance practice of these calls. Then another BLAST teaches the remaining 17 “Mainstream“ calls. Then another 4-5 weeks of square dance practice.
b. Another means is a more traditional 12-20 weeks of classes where the 68 “Basic and Mainstream“ calls are taught and practiced during 40 hours of instruction. These classes may run once a week from September through December or March or twice a week for 6-10 weeks at various times throughout the year.
After you become proficient at the “Basic and Mainstream” level there are another 30 “Plus“ calls to learn and if you desire, there are also “Advanced” and “Challenge” calls to learn.
